Wide back shot of protesters STORYLINE Several hundreds of Bosnian Serbs gathered on Saturday in the Bosnian town of Sokolac, some 50 kilometres (31 miles) east of Sarajevo, part of a series of protests in Bosnia following the arrest of war crimes suspect Ratko Mladic. Mladic was arrested in Serbia on 26 May on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity stemming from a war crimes indictment issued by the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague in 1995. The charges include ethnic cleansing in Bosnia, the siege of Sarajevo and the 1995 massacre in Srebrenica when up to 8-thousand Bosnian Muslim men and boys were killed in just a few days. Protesters consider Serbian President Boris Tadic a traitor for ordering the capture of the Bosnian Serb general who perpetrated the Bosnian war's worst atrocities in his quest for the right of Bosnian Serbs to split from the rest of the country. "Boris Tadic should be ashamed for what he did to the Serb people. Ratko Mladic defended Serb people and if it wasn't for him we wouldn't be here," said Vladan Savcic, a protester holding a photograph of Mladic in military fatigues. A banner in cyrillic read "Save Serbia and kill yourself Boris." In Serbia, authorities have stepped up security ahead of a nationalist rally opposing the extradition of former Bosnian Serb General Ratko Mladic to face war crimes charges before an international court. Extreme right-wing groups urged their supporters, mostly soccer hooligans, to join Sunday's planned rally in front of parliament in downtown Belgrade. Organised by the ultranationalist Serbian Radical Party, the rally is seen as a test as to whether Mladic still enjoys popular support after 16 years as a fugitive. Mladic, 69-years-old is being held in a Serbian jail. He could be extradited as early as Monday, if a judge rejects his appeal of a decision to move him to The Hague. His lawyer repeated on Saturday Mladic's call against violence by his supporters, saying the protests should be peaceful.
