Trying to decide on the best sheep breeds for your homestead or farm? In this video I'll talk about the pros and cons of each type of sheep, so you can make the best decision. We'll take a look at meat sheep breeds and sheep breeds for milk, so you can decide if you want a triple-purpose sheep breed or one that is specifically bred for a particular purpose. These are a few of the sheep breeds for meat that I go over in the video: Suffolk Sheep - a fast growing breed Katahdin Sheep - hair sheep, no need to shear, hardy Icelandic Sheep - hardy, can handle poor pasture Dorper Sheep - ability to shed is good for hot climates, not as parasite resistant, fast growing Texel Sheep - fast growing, more lean meat due to musculature, hardy for coldclimates There are tons of other popular meat sheep breeds. I don't go into as much detail on the sheep breeds for milk, because I have another video for that here: • Milking Sheep Breeds - Which one is right ... I hope this video helps you decide on the best sheep breeds to consider adding to your farm! If you're looking for the best sheep breeds for wool, there are certainly some that do well for both meat and milk - including the East Friesians. Some sheep breeds are bred specifically for wool, like the Merino sheep breed. #SheepFarming #MeatSheep #DairySheep #Lamb #Homesteading #RegenerativeFarming #SmallFarm #Sheep #sheep_farm
