Tearing a piece of watercolor paper, even 300lb paper, is easy to do with this simple technique. Why tear paper? Why not just cut the paper with a scissor? It's all about the edge. Tearing paper results in a deckle edge and cutting paper results in a smooth edge. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned artist you will be successful. Achieving a beautiful deckle edge is important to me because I prefer my watercolor paintings to be floated on a mat not under a mat.
