The nightmarish visions of hell painted by Dutch artist Hieronymus Bosch over five hundred years ago are some of the most familiar creations of Renaissance art. But the man who created these remarkable images is largely unknown, other than for a few passing references in the town archives of ‘s Hertogenbosch.
