What: Automated rip fence: Arduino controlled pneumatics to move my saw fence from "ripping" position to "crosscut stop" position. Why: This is a 10' sliding table saw, equipped with a Tiger Stop digital fence control unit. Advantages of the Tiger Stop include repeatable accuracy and eliminating the need to walk 20 feet each way to get around the sliding table to set the rip fence. The fence on this saw (and most sliders) has the ability to be moved forward, clear of the saw blade, to safely use as a crosscutting stop. I do this often and, until now, it has been an operation that required 2 round trips around the end of the sliding table, 1 to move the fence to crosscut position and another to return it to rip. How: Two pneumatic cylinders controlled by an Arduino (clone) programmable microprocessor. The Arduino waits for a long button press, then loosens the fence clamp levers, slides the fence to crosscut position and retightens the clamps. The next long button press restores the fence to rip position. This will save a lot of walking. Gonna have to find another way to get my steps in! The saw: SCMI Si350n The Build: Too late for an actual build video, but here is a list of the main components. I might try to do a more detailed video to discuss how it all goes together in the next few weeks. 600mm pneumatic cylinder (for moving the fence): https://www.automationdirect.com/adc/... 600mm cylinder mounting brackets: https://www.automationdirect.com/adc/...
