Whether you get the shakes, sweat way too much or just have mental blanks, performance anxiety can really sabotage your playing. I asked my email subscribers a while ago if they ever got nervous before they played and I got a ton of responses - and everyone experienced performance anxiety in slightly different ways. Some people just had butterflies in the stomach, but for some people, it was so bad that they ended up vomiting before they played nearly every time. I don’t want that for you and I’m sure you don’t want that for yourself, so in this video, you’ll get 5 ways to overcome stage fright: 3 quick mental reframes that can help soothe the feelings of stress, plus 2 longer term strategies that can really make a big difference for you. Stage fright isn’t something that goes away instantly - you’ll actually have to work on it actively. But if you really internalize the reframes and actually execute the 2 long-term strategies I outline in the video, you’ll be way ahead of the game. To get the Harry Pickens visualization technique I talk about in the lesson, just go here: • From Stage Fright to Standing Ovation - Pa... The whole workshop is worth a watch, but at the very least, this imagination-driven technique can take a lot of the stress and headache of stage fright away. Remember as well that when you go through this exercise, visualize yourself in the actual space you’ll be performing. You want to avoid getting really good in your practice space and then falling apart anytime you’re away from it. Let me know in the comments which one of the 5 ways you think will have the most impact for you over the next little while. Was it one of the quick reframes? Or do you like the idea of thinking longer term about this particular problem? Either way, I’d love to hear from you.
