From the Vault: Original .44 Auto Mag Pistol

Another episode from the recent field trip Brownells Gun Techs Keith Ford and Steve Ostrem took to the Rock Island Auction Company. This time the guys check out an original .44 Auto Mag pistol. Chambered for a cartridge called ".44 AMP," the Auto Mag is for all intents and purposes a rotary bolt operated .44 Magnum semi-automatic pistol. As you might expect, it's a heavy gun that's best suited to hunting or silhouette shooting - though of course, Clint Eastwood packed one in the 1983 Dirty Harry movie Sudden Impact. Introduced in 1971, the Auto Mag has been in and out of production ever since, by several companies. Original guns from the first production run, like this one, are rare.
