This is my mission to walk all 2,000 miles of Britain's canals and waterways. This episode: I complete the final section of the beautiful Stratford-upon-Avon Canal Towpath, connecting with its people and exploring its history, wildlife, and the canal-side pubs on the way. I walk from Wilmcote, where Taz and I finished last time, into the historic town of Stratford Upon Avon. Along the way: Lots of beautiful scenery and locks, brand new lock gates, signs of arson on the canal bank on the approach to Stratford Upon Avon, collapsed towpaths, jungle overgrowth and of course the final lovely stretch onto Bancroft Basin. To find out more about the Canal and Rivers Trust and the amazing work they do to maintain the British canal network go here: https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/ After a tough year (2024) suffering with a bad ulcerative colitis flare-up, I decided to walk all 2,000 miles of Britain’s canal towpaths to rebuild my physical fitness, conquer my anxiety about leaving the house, and reconnect with the world outside. It’s more than just a personal challenge. It’s also about raising awareness of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and the incredible work carried out by Crohn’s & Colitis UK. To find out more about Crohn's and Colitis UK go here: https://crohnsandcolitis.org.uk/ To make a small donation to support the work of Crohn's and Colitis UK, which makes such a huge difference to sufferers of IBD like myself go here and be awesome: https://www.justgiving.com/page/walkt... If you’ve ever struggled with the fear, isolation, and exhaustion that comes with chronic illness, I hope this journey inspires you to keep up the fight. You’ve got this! Join me as I take on this long-distance challenge in sections, one walk, one canal, one pint at a time. I’ll be documenting the whole adventure here on YouTube and on my social media channels. So, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and follow along as I walk all 2,000 miles of Britain’s canals.
