Wearing a pair of green rubber boots, she arrived at the town of Venlo in North Limburg and spoke to residents being forced out of their homes. Tens of thousands of Dutch people are fleeing the floodwaters, which could burst through dikes protecting thousands of acres of fertile lowlands. Soldiers and emergency crews have been laying sandbags in an attempt to reinforce the soaked and weakened dykes, most of which are below sea level.
