www.HistoryInYourOwnBackyard.com info@HistoryInYourOwnBackyard.com 812-623-5727 The building that currently houses the Market Street Grille in Harrison, Ohio was built in 1856 as a brewery and 100,000 bricks were used in its construction. The bricks were made at the Singers Brickyard in Harrison at a cost of $300.00. In 1893 the building was sold for $9750.00 to the Harrison Independent Order of Odd Fellows. The group immediately started a renovation on the building raising the roof on the second floor to a height of 16 feet inside so that they could have ball room dancing. Below on the first floor was a hardware store. The building went through several owners over the years until 1996 when it was purchased by Adam Walter, Brenda Leonard & Paula Eggleston who turned it into the Market Street Grille. At one time there was a series of tunnels under Harrison to carry goods from the canal up to the merchants in town.
