This interesting session called ‘Sanskrit aur Farsi: Ek Ghar ke Do Darwaze’ was presided over by Ashutosh Dayal Mathur, Balram Shukla and Satyanarayan Hegde who discussed the two rich languages and similarities between them. Ashutosh Dayal Mathur has been teaching Sanskrit at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University for more than three decades. His doctoral dissertation on medieval Hindu law was published by Oxford University Press in 2006. Mathur is keenly interested in theatre and has also been a Sanskrit theatre actor. He has also presented news on radio and written nearly a hundred short humorous pieces. Balram Shukla is a professor of Sanskrit at Delhi University. He writes poetry in both Sanskrit and Persian and also translates Persian poetry into Sanskrit using the same poetic metres. He has been awarded the Badrayan Vyas Award for Sanskrit in 2013 by the President of India. He has authored six books. Satyanarayana Hegde is a lawyer by profession and a literary theorist by persuasion. He is interested in comparative literature, especially with reference to Sanskrit, Persian and Urdu literary cultures. #JashneRekhta The Jashn-e-Rekhta is an annual three-day festival celebrating Urdu language, literature and culture.
