Our retirement journey continues. It has been about a month since we left the U.S., on September 2, 2025. We planned, flew our 13 year old dog, Bossy to Frankfurt and she eventually met us (my wife and I) in Madrid. From there, all three of us took the fast train to Malaga. Those are the previous three videos. In this video we're adjusting. Can you get by in Spain without speaking Spanish? Many videos will tell you "oh sure", but in fact, I'd tell you no. Most people in Centro do not speak English. My wife is fluent but I am not so for example, could I open an account to turn on the electricity? No. There is no English version of their website. Same for everything else. Buy a bed? Saleslady doesn't speak English. "Queen-sized bed" doesn't mean the same size in Spain as it does in the US. The locals are tolerant of visitors (like me) but want to speak to you in their language. We've got the water fixed- we had no water in our apartment for two weeks, and we got a mattress on the floor, internet, a table and chairs, but not much else. Our furniture and most of our clothes are on a ship sailing toward Malaga, so we're making do. The restaurants are amazing, the food markets are fun, the city is bustling. We walk over 8000 steps most days without it feeling like exercise. We buy warm bread, out of an oven most every day. Yes, there are tourists. Can we sleep with the noise? Yes. It's just people having fun and it's invigorating. (And double glazed windows help). So far, we have no complaints and look forward to what's to come. And I'll show it to you.
