S1 – Ep 287 – Avontuur – A Special and Small Farming Community!

Our visit to Avontuur was a truly unforgettable experience. Although we arrived late in the afternoon, we still managed to have a wonderful time exploring the special and small farming community. One of the highlights of our visit was seeing the steam locomotive, known as the Apple Express, which was still in remarkable condition. It was incredible to see such a significant part of the town's history still standing proud and tall. As we drove through the town, we couldn't help but admire the station buildings, which although abandoned, were still beautiful. Seeing the farm workers picking apples was a heartwarming sight, reminding us of the town's agricultural roots and the importance of hard work. We spent the night on Belle-vue Farm, which was a truly unique experience. We enjoyed delicious pizzas from Uniondale as we watched the sunset, and the peace and tranquillity of the farm were a welcome change from the hustle-and-bustle of city life. The next morning, I took a leisurely stroll around the farm and was delighted to learn that this was the tenth generation of the family living on the farm. As we hit the road once again, we couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia and longing for the simplicity and beauty of a place like Avontuur.
