9th class BIOLOGY New course 2025/cytoskeleton/ lec 7 The cytoskeleton is a network of protein fibers that maintains the shape, support, and movement of the cell. Two important components of the cytoskeleton are microfilaments and microtubules. Microfilaments are thin fibers made of actin protein. They help in cell movement, muscle contraction, and maintaining cell shape. Microtubules are thicker hollow tubes made of tubulin protein. They play an important role in cell division, chromosome movement, cilia and flagella formation, and intracellular transport. This video explains the difference between microfilaments and microtubules in a simple and conceptual way.
