Text of Kate Spade Suicide Note Reportedly Leaks Kate Spade was found dead in her New York apartment on Tuesday of an apparent suicide, with police saying that the fashion designer left a note on the scene. According to TMZ, the content of that note was leaked, and Spade allegedly directed the note to his 13-year-old daughter, Frances. "Bea, I've always loved you," he supposedly read the note. "This is not your fault, ask dad!" CBS News confirmed that Spade's note was addressed to her daughter and told her it was not her fault. Spade's daughter, Frances Beatrix, is the designer's only daughter. Frances's father is Spade's husband, Andy Spade, who was at home at the time of his wife's death. Kate found the cleaning staff around 10:20 a.m. hanging in his apartment on Park Avenue. They found her with a red scarf around her neck attached to a doorknob, and it is not clear how long she was dead. According to reports, the housekeeper who found Kate ran to the main floor to notify the superintendent of the building, who cut the handkerchief and tried to apply the CPR to the designer. Kate was declared dead at the scene. "The content of that note, as well as the physical condition of the apartment and the comments of the witness, lend credibility to what is an apparent suicide," said NYPD Detective Chief Dermot Shea. Police say the designer may have committed suicide because of money and marital problems, and her older sister, Reta Saffo, said in an email that she believes the 55-year-old man suffered from bipolar disorder. "It finally took its toll, a very tragic and sad end to the life of a very colorful and charming being," Saffo wrote, adding that "he tried on numerous occasions to obtain his help."
