Ex-Ukraine PM creates salvation committee

(3 Aug 2015) Ukraine's former Prime Minister, who fled the country following the overthrow of its Moscow-friendly President, announced the creation of a "Ukraine Salvation Committee" on Monday, calling for early presidential and parliamentary elections. Mykola Azarov left Ukraine along with former President Viktor Yanukovych, driven from office after months of protests in 2014. Azarov said the committee will not include Yanukovych and that it will back ex-lawmaker Vladimir Oleinik as a presidential candidate if early elections are held. Ukrainian officials made no immediate comment. A spokesmen for Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Kremlin had nothing to do with Azarov's announcement.
