I am a female solo hiker and aspiring female solo backpacker who hikes, explores in Northeastern Pennsylvania in spring, summer, winter, and fall. In this video, I hike the Hawk Mountain Loop Trail at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary located in Berks and Schuykill Counties in Pennsylvania. Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is a nonprofit, 2,600-acre wild bird sanctuary since 1934 featuring a visitor center, trails & overlooks. It's main purpose is to protect birds of prey and to educate the public and provide a natural environment where these birds can be observed. This is a 5.7 mile hike clockwise around the ALL Trails hike Hawk Mountain Loop. I skipped the loop around the River of Rocks and opted instead to take another route to get onto the River of Rocks. I am using the All Trails app for the hike and provide elevation gain and mileage information as well as a map of the hiking route. This is a gorgeous, but hot and buggy summer hike in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The trail is extremely rocky and there is a lot of scrambling over rocks and boulders. Nature is healing, and I believe that many people are starting to know that especially during this time of quarantine with COVID19. I saw a lot of families and people at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary walking the trails with their families and their kids. I am a breast cancer survivor who, after receiving such a difficult diagnosis, going through chemo and treatment, now likes to explore nature, be outside, hike, and explore. I pretty much created a new, heart-centered life for myself which is now focused on the outdoors, as I have found nature to be very healing during my treatment and recovery from breast cancer. I did many hikes or forest walks or forest bathing (as the Japanese refer to it) at the beginning of my diagnosis and throughout it. My hope is that other women will find the courage to get outside, opt outside in nature to hike, backpack, and explore, even if they have to do it as a solo hiker on their own. If a woman is starting out hiking solo, I recommend short, easy hikes such as this one to start getting comfortable out in the woods, forest, and in nature. I am a wild woman who likes to explore, hike, and backpack in nature. I also love to do nature photography on the trails that I am exploring. I typically will do this as a solo hiker. I aspire to be a female solo backpacker.
