The Introvert House project was a retrofitted design wherein the architects had to make conscious efforts and take mindful decisions to ensure a clear design language between the old and the new structure. It was imperative to ensure that the design intervention blends in with the existing space and stands out, carving out an identity for itself. The Introvert House, with a built-up area of 1,754 sq.ft., lies across a 1,000 sq. ft. plot in the core of Pune city, Maharashtra. The neighborhood here was close-knit, wherein houses share walls on either side. Through terraces, occupants peeped into each other’s lives. Hence the architects needed to formulate the house revamp, ensuring that while the openness of the terrace was reserved, the spaces were oriented inwards to create a private setting.
