From Film Images 1974 Catalog Vol 1 page 26: This film continues the story of the motion pictures by showing the first man to undertake a scientific study of movement, Professor Etienne­ Jules Marey, a French physiologist. In analyzing the gallop of a horse, he determined that the animal rests momentarily on only one leg. Eadward Muybridge, a San Francisco photographer, confirmed this independently with a battery of twenty-four still cameras set to catch the successive stages of a horse's movement. Next, Thomas Alva Edison's invention of the first motion picture camera in 1888, and his peepshow projector, the Kinetoscope, in 1889, are shown. It remained for Louis Lumière in France to develop and patent in 1895 a projector capable of showing films to a larger audience, the Cinematographe. Some of Lumière's earliest films are shown as part of this fascinating and historically-accurate film.
