These hits showcased Mary’s rich, smooth voice and complex, perfectly executed harmonies, which she sang along with herself through multitrack recording and overdubbing—a brand new technique that changed the way music was made. As a guitarist and singer, her mastery of versatile guitar playing that seamlessly blended country, jazz, and pop, combined with her innovative use of sound-on-sound recording, set a new standard for what was possible in the studio. In 1958, Gibson made precisely one original Mary Ford signature Les Paul Goldtop model for her, complete with an ES-295-style cream pickguard with gold floral art and a matching floral art armrest.
