His family moved to Pensacola, Florida, where he witnessed gun batteries being set up on white sand beaches during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He recounts watching two Marines drag a fellow Marine to safety and how that motivated him to enlist. He details the steps that led him to Army Special Forces. He describes his training and compares it with conditions today. He recalls several experiences in Vietnam. He discusses his post-war life and career.
