29 September 2025, New York — Nepal’s Ambassador to the UN, Lok Bahadur Thapa, delivered a powerful address at the General Assembly’s high-level debate, linking domestic transformation with urgent global challenges. He highlighted the recent Gen-Z protests calling for transparency, equal opportunity, and an end to corruption — a movement that paved the way for historic milestones, including the appointment of Nepal’s first woman Prime Minister and preparations for the 2026 general elections. Ambassador Thapa framed these changes as steps toward consolidating democracy and rebuilding public trust, while also urging stronger international solidarity. From rising militarization to unmet development goals and the worsening climate crisis, he warned of the heavy cost of inaction. Calling for bold steps on the 2030 Agenda and climate justice, he pressed for emissions cuts and scaled-up renewable energy. Closing with a message of unity, Thapa reminded Member States: “When the United Nations succeeds, humanity as a whole succeeds. When it falters, it is the innocent and the vulnerable who bear the heaviest cost.” For details see here: https://news.un.org/en/story/2025/09/1165989
