Emergency Management and Recovery Minister Mark Mitchell told reporters the Banks Peninsula community of Little River has been cut off. There are controlled movements out of the community, Mitchell added. Mitchell said further Government support will be sent to Selwyn, however Selwyn mayor Sam Broughton will need to assess and see what support is needed and where. Meanwhile, Christchurch Mayor Phil Mauger said the city would extend its state of emergency. As officials continue to assess the situation, another review is scheduled for tomorrow. Mauger said they were originally not going to declare a state of emergency at all in Christchurch, however when the rain didn't fall as expected they decided to call it.
