My son accidentally bent the hinge on my glasses by putting his full weight on them while climbing into the car, so I decided to try repairing them instead of replacing them. In this video, I walk through my plan to remove the hinge using heat, carefully straighten it, and reattach it with E6000 adhesive. The removal process took longer than expected, and the hinge design caused some minor melting where it bites into the frame. After straightening the hinge, I noticed the arm bracket was slightly spread, but I left it as-is to avoid risking a worse fit. The first glue attempt looked good at first, but after wearing them I realized the hinge hadn’t bonded properly on the lower edge due to the way it was clipped together during curing. So I removed everything, cleaned it up, and re-glued only the hinge this time. After letting it cure for five days, the hinge is now firmly attached. The only remaining movement is in the hinge itself — not the bond — and the glasses have held up to normal daily use, including beanies, collar hangs, shop work, and general clumsiness. This isn’t a perfect repair, but it’s a solid, practical fix that’s working well in real life.
