Come for the weird mashup DEVO, Jazz, Prog Rock, and JD Beck vibes. Stay for the improvised solo I nailed at the end of the piece - haha. When you create a new Set on Move, it randomly picks from the 1,500 onboard presets. Track 1 = Drums, Track 2 = Bass, Track 3 = poly synth, Track 4 = Lead synth. While you can certainly create with intention with it, this feature = serendipitous joy. Here's how this crazy track came about: I created a new set which set me up randomly with some acoustic drums. In track 3, I used a template kit to sample the Nord then do some 16 Pitch sequencing with Capture. This set my tempo to 91. My brain then went to half-time 182 BPM and laid down some drums and synth clips using the poly-pressure pads using Capture. Then automation with Capture. I then improvised over the top with three Nord Lead 4 instances doing sound design tweaks as I went. I did a couple takes and I really liked this one because I nailed the lead at the end. Bottom line is: While Ableton Move is certainly an amazing tool for composing with intention, it REALLY shines as a damn fun way to go on a musical journey without being boxed in. PS - The Move fits so nicely on the right deck of the Nord Lead 4. I may have to work up a live repertoire with this rig. PPS - I’ve used the Nord Lead 4 heavily for 10 years. I think it is one of the most misunderstood underrated synths out there. I love how can take snapshots of state and trigger them, or use the mod wheel to morph things like Arp time as in this piece. https://MarkMosherMusic.com
