Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture, formerly known as Hezhou, is an autonomous prefecture under the jurisdiction of Gansu Province, one of the two Hui Autonomous Prefectures in China and two ethnic autonomous prefectures in Gansu, established in November 1956. As of May 2021, the state has a total area of 8,169 square kilometres, with one county-level city and seven counties under its jurisdiction. There are 42 ethnic groups in the state, including Hui, Han, Dongxiang, Bao'an and Salar, and the Dongxiang and Bao'an are ethnic minorities endemic to Gansu, with Linxia as the main settlement area. According to the seventh census, as of November 1, 2020, the resident population of Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture was 2,109,750. Linxia is located in the western region of China, southwest of central Gansu Province and upstream of the Yellow River, and is the main point of the ancient Silk Road, the ancient town of the Tangfan Road, and the centre of the tea and horse market. It is also known as the "Western Dry Dock" and "Wenzhou in the East and Hezhou in the West". Close to Lanzhou and adjacent to Tibetan areas, Linxia is an important economic channel for the mainland to connect Tibetan areas. 2019, more than 300,000 people of Linxia nationality are doing business and working in Tibetan areas such as Tibet, Qinghai and Sichuan, becoming the main bearer of trade between Tibetan areas and the mainland and playing an irreplaceable role. 2020, Linxia's regional GDP is 33.13 billion yuan. Linxia is one of the important origins of Chinese civilisation, inhabited by ancestral peoples more than 5,000 years ago, with counties, states and counties established since the Qin and Han dynasties, known in ancient times as Quercus, and later renamed Hezhou. It is one of the areas with the highest concentration of Neolithic culture and the most archaeological excavations in China. Cultural sites such as the Majiayao Culture, the Hanshan Culture and the Qijia Culture are scattered all over the country, and the "King of Painted Pottery" treasured by the National Museum was unearthed in Linxia, making it the "Hometown of Painted Pottery in China". The Bingling Temple Grottoes, a World Heritage Site, and the world's intangible cultural heritage folk song " Flowers" have earned it the title of "The Hometown of Chinese Flowers".
