Another big mistake I used to make was to expect that my corrections to a mistake in one or two practice sessions would permanently eliminate the mistake. When it returned, albeit with fewer occurrences, I would get frustrated and wonder why I wasn’t getting better. Ironically, I was getting better; I just didn’t realize it. Oftentimes, as students, we expect faster results than what’s possible physically and cognitively. This can lead to the same frustration I felt early on and make us want to do more reps than needed to “fix” the problem. But working this way is like cramming for a test. We may get lucky and get an A, but did we learn anything? In reality, when we correct an error in a practice session, we don’t “fix” it in terms of permanence or perfection. Instead, we simply increase our probability of success (or decrease our probability of error) for the next practice session. Think of it like playing darts. If you miss the bullseye, you correct your miss by aiming even more. The next time, you may get closer to the center. You may even hit the bullseye, but just because you hit it once doesn't mean that you're going to hit it every single time after. Instead, in every practice session, you continue aiming for the bullseye and notice that you get closer and closer as time goes on. Eventually, you’ll start hitting the bullseye with more consistency. Here are a few tips to help you think long-term: • Make your goal to improve your challenges a little each day rather than eliminate them on day 1. • Work in sets — interleaved pracride — to help consolidate your corrections faster. Try 2-3 sets of challenge spots and work on reaching at least a 70% success rate for each challenge in each set. For example, Set 1 = ABC — Take a break — Set 2 = ABC. Then put the guitar down and give it about a day for everything to consolidate. • Remind yourself, as I mentioned earlier, that success at playing an instrument is a result of small and consistent improvements over time. 🚨 FREE PRACTICE GUIDE PDF 🚨 https://diegoalonsomusic.ck.page/prac... 💪🏽 HOW I OVERCAME MY GUITAR STRUGGLES 💪🏽 https://diegoalonsomusic.com/mystory/ 🛍 PRODUCTS & GEAR (AFFILIATE LINKS) 🛍 https://diegoalonsomusic.com/blog-page/ BEST WIRELESS IPHONE CONDENSOR MICROPHONE (Affiliate Link) https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=244941...
