Keely, was ahead of his time. From his keen observations of nature, he developed the implosion theory which states that energy generation by means of an explosion (petrol engines, nuclear energy) is destructive and harmful to the environment. Energy generation by means of implosion, on the other hand, results in an increased concentration of energy as well as cooling and levity. Typical examples of such implosion energy in the natural environment are a whirlpool and a whirlwind. Applying his ideas to industry, he designed log flumes more advanced than those in use at the time. These flumes used guiding vanes to twist the water into centripetal motion, producing small vortices within the flumes. The levity and propulsion provided by these vortices enabled heavier loads to be transported with significantly less water and resulted in more than a 90% reduction in transportation costs. Ultimately, his insights led to the development of the Repulsine, a novel aircraft which harnessed the properties of a self-generated vortex as well as the diamagnetism to achieve a powerful form of levitation and propulsion.
