The town of Celestún is in the northwest corner of the state, just north of the border with the state of Campeche, on the Gulf of Mexico coast. We came to Celestún not to chill on the beach, but because it is where you’re supposed to be able to see flocks of wild flamingos. Surely you’ve seen flamingos in zoos before, but it was entirely different seeing them out here in the wild! Celestun flamingo season is November to April and the best time to see flamingos in Celestun is December-February.
