Most of the players are Canadians. Celtic Soul follows Canadian actor and funny man Jay Baruchel on an epic road trip through Canada, Ireland and Scotland with his new friend, well-known Irish soccer journalist Eoin O’Callaghan. It’s a story that spans 200 years of colorful history and that will take the duo eastward from Montreal to Westport, Ireland – where Jay’s ancestors set sail for Canada, like so many others – and finally Glasgow, where Jay will fulfill a lifelong dream: to watch a match at Celtic Park, one of the wildest and most hallowed grounds in world football. Transcriptions: 00:00:03 Jay Baruchel: Here we are, in Glasgow town, and we're off to see the Braehead Clan. What's really cool is, you know, soccer exports so well to the rest of the world. Hockey, less so. But, one of the places where it's actually kind of blossomed is here in Scotland and Northern Ireland. This is one of the diehard teams, Braehead Clan. Eoin O’Callaghan: Yeah, because you have this weird thing where its a Canadian sport in the middle of Scotland being played by Canadians. 00:00:46 Jay Baruchel: How many games is it at? Neil Trimm: Fifty-two. Jay Baruchel: Oh so you guys are in the homestretch then? Neil Trimm: Yeah I think we got 12? 10 games left. Jay Baruchel: So do you guys have a playoff system? Neil Trimm: It’s weird man, you just play a tournament in Nottingham, just semi-finals and finals. So just two semi-finals. So if you win four games, you win the playoff championship. 00:01:11 Jay Baruchel: And on the ice does it feel different? Is it a different game back home? Stefan Meyer: This league is probably the most similar to ours in North America, whereas Sweden and Germany is kind of more finesse. 00:01:24 Jay Baruchel: This team has a pretty legitimate fanbase doesn't it. Ryan Finnerty: Yeh, I mean, we just pretty much sell out. We just like that roughness. And then once you get them in the door, it’s like oh jeez. If there's one fight or one hit they’re sold. 00:01:50 Chris Holt: See that? I fucking dominated them like no other. Jay Baruchel: Yeah, you did too bud, nothing got in there! Chris Holt: They’re all sitting out there chirping you wouldn’t even fucking believe. Shut them right up at 10-3. Jay Baruchel: Where are you from man? Chris Holt: Vancouver. Jay Baruchel: How long have you been over here? Chris Holt: It's my first year. First and last, I’m retiring after this year. That’s it, twelve years is long enough. Not a bad run, not a bad run. Jay Baruchel: That's huge. 00:02:45 Chris Holt: I was in Riga, Latvia for two years. Then I went deep into Siberia. You remember a couple years ago when the meteor hit the earth over there? That was like an hour from where I was living. You gotta have dinner with the Russian mafia guys and the meteors are hitting the earth I was like I gotta get out of this game.
