Let's look at each type in detail. Long Bones: Long bones are longer than they are wide, which is why they are called long bones. They have a cylindrical shape. The middle part of a long bone is called the diaphysis, and the ends are called the epiphysis. The diaphysis region has compact bone, with yellow bone marrow in the center, while the epiphysis region has spongy bone. These bones are found in our limbs, like the femur, tibia, humerus, and phalanges. Long bones have many functions, but their main role is to help move the skeleton and support body weight. Short Bones: Short bones are almost cube-shaped, meaning they are about as long as they are wide. Examples of short bones are the carpals and tarsals. These bones provide stability and support and help with multidirectional movement. Flat Bones: Flat bones are thin and flat. They have compact bone at the edges and spongy bone in the center. Examples of flat bones include the skull bones, ribs, scapula, and sternum. Flat bones protect our major internal organs and also help with muscle attachment. Irregular Bones: Irregular bones have complex shapes, which is why they are called irregular bones. Examples include the vertebrae, mandible, and pelvis. Irregular bones are important for muscle attachment, support, and protecting the spinal cord. Sesamoid Bones: These bones are small, round, and found under tendons. Their function is to protect tendons from tearing. An example is the patella, also known as the kneecap. #TypesOfBones #BoneAnatomy #LongBones #ShortBones #FlatBones #IrregularBones #SesamoidBones #HumanSkeleton #BoneStructure #AnatomyEducation
