Video nr 21 in the Innovation for Impact series. Even if you have mapped out a nice position in a current or forming ecosystem, and there is a nice value proposition for the end customers, you may still fail. This video relies on Value Network and Value Structure reasoning from videos 16 and 20 and presents Ron Adner’s framework for ecosystem entry risks. In particular, Co-innovation risk occurs when a function in the Value Structure is missing or has insufficient performance, so the innovator needs to make a strategy for dealing with that. Adoption-chain risk, on the other hand, has to do with actors in the customer chain (video 4) being under-incentivized and therefore not cooperative in bringing the innovation to market. Later, in video 25, some variations of ecosystem entry situations will be discussed in detail, giving more insight for strategy formation. Video 4: • 4. Defining Customers Video 16: • 16.
