In this video, I build a box out of oak and gild the back of a sheet of glass. The second part of the video is a little unusual for my channel (and it´s not "only handtools"), but at least there's a wooden box :) Before I studied design, I trained as a sign painter and neon sign maker. However, I only worked in this profession for about four years and haven't made a glass sign since. A few months ago, the YouTube algorithm showed me a video from Paul's channel ( @happygilder – check him out, he's a great guy and has awesome videos!) and I immediately wanted to try it again after about 23 years. The gilding may look good to the layman, but from a sign painter's point of view, it turned out relatively disastrous. I used far too much gold, had shaky hands, the pane wasn't properly clean, which is why the gilded surface doesn't shine as brightly as it could, the glue chipping could have gone better, and so on and so forth. But all in all, I'm very satisfied. It was a lot of fun and I have one more wooden box (you can never have enough of those!). As always, I don't explain anything in this video. If you have any questions, feel free to write to me – I usually respond to every comment!
