Removing Cement Render From Our Irish Farmhouse Is Hard Work | Farmhouse Restoration

In this episode, we focus on a very import part of our farmhouse restoration here in Ireland. The front exterior wall was modernised in the 60s with concrete render and over the years has no doubt caused rising damp in the front wall and caused the timber joists to rot within the farmhouse. Using mainly a bolster chisel and hammer, we continue to remove the cement render bit by bit exposing the gorgeous stones from which the house is built. Removing it is a nightmare in places and not even the SDS breaker works. This is going to be a slow and methodical job, but one which will help reduce rising damp by letting the front wall dry out in the late Spring and full Summer sun. A lot of people are searching for Irish cottage renovations and Irish cottage restorations but we can't fall under either of those due to our house being a farmhouse. We are leaning more towards restoration and conservation of our 110+ year old farmhouse than we are renovation but appreciate we can't not renovate and update some things the once derelict farmhouse as we go.
