2020 in 5 Minutes

Music: The Meaning by Fruition What does a year look like in just five minutes? That’s what I decided to try and capture in 2020. If there were days where a lot didn’t happen, no need to put in filler seconds (spoiler alert, there were plenty of days where not a ton happened, because 2020). If there were trips or busy days, why not have a few seconds to remember the little details? Little did I know just how challenging of a year 2020 would be for nearly everyone. For myself, there were lots of painful points that included: A global pandemic changing nearly every aspect of daily life (tough to contain this one to just one bullet) The sudden passing of Kobe, our family dog for more than 17 years The shocking loss of sports icon Kobe Bryant that was felt across the world Social unrest in the US and a reckoning on our nation’s history as well as a personal initiative to delve into this history A particularly nasty election with a very contentious atmosphere surrounding it A Christmas tree bug infestation that will forever change the way I shop for trees (very minor but still needed mentioning) Although these pain points were felt by myself and many others, there was still good in the mess that was 2020. This year, I: Moved into an apartment with Allison after being long distance for roughly 3.5 years, at points 6 time zones away Started a new job in a fast-paced environment Traveled to Puerto Rico with Allison right before COVID was detected on a large scale and shut down travel Adopted an eight week old puppy with Allison. Another spoiler alert, Luna is the star of the show this year Found out I’ll have a nephew coming next May Spent two separate weeks at the beach over the summer with Allison’s family as well as my own Saw parts of the state I may have otherwise skipped over to travel to faraway places I as well as many others look to 2021 with optimism as vaccines are to be distributed in the coming months to the broad population. I also am optimistic about the new creative freedom that this new project format has afforded me. With this in mind, here’s to optimism and to appreciating things we formerly took for granted as we move into the new year!
