National Science Week - Marine Engineering Officer

National Science Week is Australia’s celebration of science and technology. A technical role in Navy can provide a fulfilling career for those with an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). SBLT Jackson Harvey is the Assistant Marine Engineering Officer aboard HMAS Warramunga. As a junior officer in this environment, Jackson’s role is to support Marine Technician sailors and familiarise himself with the systems and equipment in the warship. Jackson joined Navy through the Undergraduate Entry Officers’ Course – Navy funded his university study and paid him a salary during his time at university. After completion of the New Entry Officers’ Course, Jackson began going to sea and just completed his first overseas deployment in Hawaii as part of Exercise Rim of the Pacific.
