The EU’s restriction on microplastics came into force on 17 October 2023, with their inclusion in REACH Annex XVII, Entry 78. This regulation bans the intentional use of specific microplastics in products, except in cases where exemptions, or derogations, apply. These derogations, however, come with rigorous reporting obligations, as outlined by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in April of this year.
