Today folks, I'm going to be looking into a topic that I've heard many things about over the years, but have no real experience of myself. As you might know, I'm a big fan of Newtone Strings, and they kindly sent me a couple of sets of 'my' string gauge to experiment with and investigate the similarities and differences between string sets with hex-cores and round-cores. Is there any tonal difference between them? Do they feel different under the fingers? Do round-cores give you 'true vintage tone' when hex-cores don't? Should you make the move from one construction to the other? Does it even matter? All these questions will (hopefully!) be answered today. What do you think? Which type of strings do you use? Would to experiment with the other based on what you heard today? Comment below! Guitars are: Gibson ES-330 '61 VOS Reissue w/ OX4 P90s Fender Strat w/ Fralin Real '54s Played through a Vajra JTM45 Clone into a Zilla Studio Pro 2x12 with Fane Ascension A60 and Celestion Heritage G12H55 speakers.
