Study for the GMAT with Magoosh! 🎓 https://bit.ly/3Fb4T33 This week, we’re diving into GMAT math for a review of the 45-45-90 special triangle. It’s important that you learn not only how to identify this triangle, but also how to derive it, since that’s the skill you’ll need to show on your test! The 45-45-90 triangle can be derived by splitting a square diagonally into two equal parts. This gives us two 45-45-90 triangles! To keep things simple, let's just work with one of these two :) In the resulting 45-45-90 triangle, two angles and two sides are equal. That means that it's an isosceles triangle. We can use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the side lengths of a 45-45-90 triangle. The sides always have a length ratio of 1 : 1 : √ 2. This last side (√ 2) is always the hypotenuse, and the other two sides are the legs of the triangle. Make sure that you can derive this triangle before you take the GMAT! It's important that you're able to this - don't just memorize the angles and sides! For more tips on the GMAT's favorite triangles, go to: http://magoosh.com/gmat/2012/the-gmat...
