Lee-Metford (1888-1895): This was the predecessor to the Lee-Enfield line and was chambered in the .303 British caliber. Lee-Enfield Short Magazine Lee-Enfield Mark I (SMLE Mk I - 1904-1926): This was the first of the shortened "universal" Lee-Enfield rifles, designed to serve both as a full-length and a carbine rifle. It was chambered in .303 British. Lee-Enfield Short Magazine Lee-Enfield Mark III (SMLE Mk III - 1907-1926): This was an improved version of the Mk I, and was the main rifle used by the British Empire in WWI. It was also chambered in .303 British. *Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk III (1926-1945)**: This was a simplified version of the SMLE Mk III, primarily used during WWII. It was chambered in .303 British. Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I (1939-1957): This model was a further improvement over previous designs with a heavier barrel, and was one of the main rifles used by British and Commonwealth forces in WWII. It was also chambered in .303 British. Lee-Enfield No. 5 Mk I (1944-1947): Known as the "Jungle Carbine," this rifle was lighter and shorter than previous models for use in the Pacific theater.
