The San Jacinto Battleground & State Historic Site marks the spot where on April 21,1836 Texas indisputably became Texas. It's where independence was won in the final battle of the Texas Revolution, and it's one of the most important battles in Texas history. Shouts of "Remember the Alamo" and "Remember Goliad" could be heard as the Texan army surprise-attacked the napping Mexican troops, in what was the culmination of months of fighting.
