BREAKING: Supreme Court Criticises States Giving Out Freebies Amid Losses, 'Affects Work Culture' The Supreme Court of India strongly criticised the growing “freebies culture” in politics, stating that excessive and unsustainable free handouts severely hamper India’s economic development and long-term fiscal health. The bench led by Justice B.R. Gavai remarked that competitive promises of free electricity, cash transfers, free travel, loan waivers, and similar schemes distort economic priorities, strain state budgets, encourage fiscal irresponsibility, and reduce space for productive investments in infrastructure, education, and healthcare. The court stressed that while targeted welfare for the genuinely needy is essential, unchecked freebie culture prioritises short-term populist gains over sustainable growth and ultimately harms the poor by limiting resources for meaningful development. The Supreme Court urged political parties and governments to rethink this model ahead of upcoming state elections, cautioning that it could jeopardise India’s economic progress, self-reliance goals, and ability to fund genuine development programs. While some defend freebies as necessary social support, the observation has intensified calls for a balanced approach that protects fiscal health without compromising welfare for the most vulnerable sections of society. #SupremeCourtOfIndia #SupremeCourtNews #SupremeCourtCase #SupremeCourtVerdict #SupremeCourt #FreebiesCulture #IndiaEconomy #FiscalDeficit #ElectionDebate #JusticeBRGavai #EconomicPolicy #StateElections #PoliticalNews #IndiaDevelopment #republicworld #RepublicTV #BreakingNews #RepublicNews #IndiaNews #RepublicExclusive #RepublicWorldLive #ArnabGoswami #RepublicDigital #NationFirst Watch More ➡️ Videos On: / @republicdefence Visit Now ➡️ Full Story On: https://www.republicworld.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Republic TV is India's no.1 English news channel since its launch.
