This simulation shows the impact of a 122mm BR-471 APHE being fired from a Soviet IS-2 tank at a range of 0.01KM, targeting the turret side of a US M1A1 Abrams tank. Armed with its 122mm D-25T gun, the IS-2 is considered one of the deadliest soviet tanks disputing the fact that its role was as an anti-infantry/fortification weapon, not primarily as an anti-tank. As we can see, the array armour successfully managed to absorb the kinetic energy of the BR-471, which is fairly large due its large mass, reducing its velocity by 45%. Although the final plate is affected, no significant damage will occur inside the tower. However, this was still an unforgettable experience for the crew.
