A presentation by Craig Holdrege, Director and Senior Researcher at The Nature Institute, on the life and work of Franz Marc, the great expressionist painter who always worked with tremendous devotion to portray animals as "they themselves see the world and feel their being." Slides of Marc's work begin with his early drawings and paintings (including some fascinating photographs of his work as a young teacher of anatomical drawing), trace his further evolution as an artist, and end with his powerfully vibrant expressionist works. This presentation was given at The Nature Institute on February 14th, 2017, as part of the Winter Course, a week-long intensive for farmers, apprentices, and educators. Craig gave an earlier version of the talk in the fall of 2016, in response to the centennial celebration of Marc’s life.
