What Were They Thinking?!? Episode 1: All This & World War II

Welcome viewers to the newest series on Steve & Dave's YouTube channel: What Were They Thinking?!? In this series, we'll be taking a look at stories about some of the most bizarre concepts & projects in popular culture. Most of us have produced phantoms and chimeras in dream, drunken or drug-induced states, but waking or sobering up is generally enough to chase away the last wisps of twisted imagination. The instances we'll be talking about, however, not only survived the first shock of rational analysis, but usually also made it through the labyrinth of sales pitches, committee reviews, & hands-on work in creative teams that composes the process of creating cultural products. In particular, this latter bit of green lights & buy-ins in is what has us shaking our heads & asking the obvious question: What the hell were they thinking? In this episode, we have a look at the 1976 movie, All This & WW II, which juxtaposed newsreel footage & scenes from war movies with songs by the Beatles that were covered by some of the big pop stars of the day. The result was a mostly historical rock opera(esque) quasi-documentary. A what?!? Exactly. The songs on the soundtrack were: 1. "Magical Mystery Tour" Ambrosia 2.
