"You've gotta be matey in a Belfast taxi like this, not object to a little company". Bernard Falk reports from West Belfast where, because so many buses have been put out of action due to the troubles, a fleet of old London black taxis has sprung up. These 'people's taxis' are effectively a substitute bus service, largely following bus routes along the Falls Road and Shankill Road and, rather than being private hire, they pick up as many passengers as are prepared to squeeze in. There are now more than 300 cabs in operation, running 20 hours a day, providing employment for drivers and cheap transport for their customers. Clip taken from Nationwide, originally broadcast on BBC One, 18 November, 1974.
