This remote waterway is home to the endangered Devils River minnow and countless fish and wildlife species, and sustains the area’s ecosystem. The Giants of Caddo Lake - 6:00 Biologists continue their battle against giant salvinia, an invasive aquatic plant that threatens Texas lakes and fisheries. To protect Caddo Lake from devastation, they are enlisting the help of local conservation groups and a horde of tiny insects. Still many Texans have never experienced life in and around the ocean. But thanks to Holly Grand’s coastal fisheries outreach programs, thousands of Texans from all walks of life are learning about the beauty and bounty of the ocean. Lone Star Land Steward: Quahadi Ranch - 16:42 Steve Smith owns Quahadi Ranch in western Erath County, which he purchased in the early eighties as a getaway place from Dallas. Over the years, he noticed a decline in quail populations on the property, prompting him to team with researchers from Tarleton State University and the Rolling Plains Quail Research Ranch to initiate a translocation project that successfully brought in bobwhite quail from South Texas to the Cross-timbers region. He believes in being a steward of the land and preserving it as God made it for future generations to enjoy.
