The Short Splint

In this video, Dr Sylvestre describes how to measure and apply a shorter splint in a bandage. One that allows the pet to actually walk on their paw (rather than the splint). She uses this technique most commonly to augment a surgical repair or to start allowing more stresses to be applied to the bone itself in a healing fracture, one that is being treated by splinting only. She tends to avoid using it in the metacarpal and metatarsal fractures as the fracture line will too close to where the full brunt of the stresses applied to the paw.
