In the middle of summer, we kicked things off at 4am to beat the heat and give ourselves the best shot at a safe ascent via Logan’s Ridge — one of Mt Barney’s classic and more exposed routes. Conditions higher up had other plans. Wet rock, slick slabs, and increasing exposure slowed things down, and at around two-thirds of the way up we reached a section where continuing no longer felt like the right call. We turned back. No summit this time — but solid lessons learned. This video is about early starts, decision-making in the mountains, and respecting conditions when they’re not on your side. Knowing when to walk away is part of the game, especially on a mountain like Barney. We’ll be back.
