A memorable day for us as it was the day we completed the 214 Wainwrights. We started on our Wainwright journey in July 2015 on Walla Crag so it has taken us just over 9 years to complete all 214 Wainwrights. We have had many great days on the Fells and met some great people along the way. Thank you to everyone who has watched our journey on YouTube, we intend to continue our adventures and revisit some of our favourite fells & walks. This circular walk starts in St John's in the Vale. We parked just off the B5322 in a small parking area near Wanthwaite Bridge. From the parking area we walk the short distance along the road to a sign post for Matterdale. We turn left off the main road and walk up the lane. We head through a gate and on to the Old Coach Road for a short distance. We then head over a stile on the right hand side and on to a path which heads up past the old Hilltop Quarries. The path climbs up through a small wooded section before heading on to the open fellside. The path heads up past Threlkeld Knotts and is easy to follow. Once past Threlkeld Knotts the path climbs a bit steeper then heads up to the right climbing up the front of Clough Head. This path is narrow in places but is easy to follow and the views are stunning. The final walk to the summit is straight forward with a clear path. After celebrating our achievement with some liquid refreshment we enjoyed the views from Clough Head, which were superb. The route down takes us past White Pike and down to the Old Coach Road where we turn left and head back towards the parking area. Distance is around 5 miles
